Below are two pages from: Spectroscopic Analysis, L.H. Ahrens, Addison-Wesley Publishing, 1950-1960 editions. This is the reference used by Ziggy Bremmer (David Hudson's spectroscopist). His technique was to repeatedly place and replace the bead (if he could find it again) on the arc platform until he could get it to read. These pages show the arcing interval (sec.) to show the spectra of the precious elements. Pt starts showing up at 75-95 sec to Pt, Ir at 150-170 sec. This procedure is considered semi-quantitative only.
